GMJ & MATTER

Melbourne’s GMJ (Gavin Griffin) and Matter (Matty Doyle) joined forces in late 2015, a triggered recognition and magnetism for their shared perspectives and love for deep, atmospheric music leading to the formation of the GMJ & Matter collaboration.

Over the next 7 years a natural synergy and seamless understanding has seen works constantly flow with remixes for top tier artists such as Alex O’Rion, Pole Folder, Juan Deminicis, Nopi, Paul Kardos and Funkform amongst a raft of original works on seminal labels including Balance Music, Jee productions, Proton Music, Mango Alley and onedotsixtwo.

2020 set the stage for the conception of the pair's “Meanwhile Recordings” imprint, which has evolved into one of the most respected labels in the industry, as a platform for their own signature sounds with a raft of original and remix material, as well as becoming a destination home to some of the world’s finest artists.

Sister label “Meanwhile Horizons” has provided the perfect vehicle for the pair's expanding vision as a platform for deeper and more melodic sounds. With constant support from heavyweights including Guy J, Nick Warren and Hernan Cattaneo, Meanwhile has established itself firmly as a top 10 global label in progressive house.

Studio success has translated into demand from a constantly growing number of respected festivals and clubs both locally and abroad, highlighted by a European Tour in 2019 and 2022 with gigs for Progressive Astronaut in London, Replug Records 10 year anniversary at ADE, Ruby & Friends in Malta and their own Meanwhile & Morning After showcase at ADE in 2022, as well as locally at iconic events including Rainbow Serpent Festival, Interstellar Groove, Enchanted Garden and Elements Festival.
