TEN YEARS IN THE VALLEY
For a decade, Dimension has brought people together in a hidden valley in the far north of Aotearoa.
What began as a small underground gathering slowly grew into something much bigger. Across ten summers, thousands of people have danced beneath the stars, camped beside the river, discovered new music, and formed friendships that lasted long after the festival ended.
But over the last few years, running independent festivals has become harder and harder. Costs continue to rise, pressure builds behind the scenes, losses build, and more events are quietly disappearing each year.
Over the past year, we’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on what makes Dimension unique, and what needs to change to keep the festival alive for the years ahead.
THE ORIGINS
EDITION
Origins Edition marks a return to the core of the experience.
For 2027, the festival shifts to a single-stage format, fully centred around the Astral Arena and one connected campground experience.
Attendance will be capped at 1000 people, bringing the community closer together across the entire weekend.
One dancefloor from open to close. One shared rhythm across the weekend. Familiar faces returning each day and night as the valley transforms around us.
The whole weekend takes on a different feeling. Closer, more connected, and built around sharing the experience together in the valley.
This version of Dimension has been shaped around the things that brought us here in the first place:
the music, the outdoors, the people, and the feeling of forgetting the ordinary.
A Community Commitment
For the first time, the future of Dimension will be shaped together. Dimension 2027 will only go ahead if we know that the community is behind it and we will not run at a loss. This has been a conscious choice to protect the crew, artists and suppliers behind the scenes.
Tickets for Origins Edition go on sale 03 June 2026.
We’ll need 600 tickets confirmed by 1 September 2026 for the festival to be confirmed.
A live counter on the website will track the journey as the community comes together to reopen the valley for another summer.
If the goal is reached, Dimension 2027 is locked in and the gates will open once again.
If we don’t reach the target, all ticket purchases will be fully refunded and we’ll take the time to properly reset before deciding what comes next.
This approach allows us to move forward responsibly, without cutting corners or placing unsustainable pressure on the people behind the festival.
More than anything, we care deeply about independent music and arts culture in Aotearoa. Events across New Zealand are feeling the pressure right now. We hope Origins can be part of a more sustainable path forward, not just for us, but for the wider community that keeps these spaces alive.
The
Astral Arena
At the centre of Origins is the Astral Arena.
Across four days and nights, the dancefloor will move through psychedelic sounds from across the spectrum, powered by the full Opus sound system and surrounded by the natural environment that has always shaped the Dimension experience.
Playful daytime sessions beneath the sunshine. High-energy nights under the stars as visuals, fire, lasers, and projection mapping transform the arena around us. Sunrise moments shared together.
Origins is being curated as one continuous flow across the entire weekend.
No splitting off. No missing moments elsewhere.
Just the whole community moving together from beginning to end.
Independent
Since Day One
Dimension has always been independently built.
There are no major investors behind the scenes or large entertainment companies shaping the direction of the festival. Everything in the valley each summer exists because of a passionate collective of artists, builders, technicians, performers, organisers, volunteers, and music lovers who continue to pour themselves into it year after year.
Origins Edition is about protecting that spirit.
A format that allows us to keep building carefully, support the people involved properly, and continue creating something that still feels genuine ten years on.
Because for us, Dimension was never meant to become just another large-scale commercial festival.

As the sun rises through the valley and the Opus system echoes across the hills once again, familiar faces will gather for another summer together.
In February 2027, the valley opens once again.
